The Most Wonderful Time of the Year…

Nothing gets my holiday mojo going more than a great pre-Christmas warehouse sale! There’s something to be said about standing in line for hours and bumping elbows with hundreds of other blissful bargain shoppers as you hunt for treasures at a fraction of retail! Here are a couple of my favourites that are just around the corner.

The William Ashley Warehouse Sale running from November 1 to December 2. I am planning to shop at one of the earlier dates, and I will post my updates.

A must visit sale year after year is the Ganz Christmas Warehouse Sale that takes place from Tues., Nov. 6 to Sat., Dec. 1, 2012 at 610 Hanlan Rd. (Weston Rd. and Steeles Ave. W.) and features Christmas gifts, jewellery, picture frames, candles and baby gifts. Sale hours are Tues. to Fri. from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sat. from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Early bird sale Tues., Oct. 23 and Tues., Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Cash only

Finally, if you haven’t run out of patience by December, The Umbra Warehouse Sale never disappoints! It runs from Sat., Dec. 8 to Sun., Dec. 9, 2012 at the International Centre, Hall 6, 6900 Airport Rd. in Mississauga. You’ll find home decor, tabletop accessories, kitchenware, window treatments and picture frames from this premium wholesaler. Bring a donation for the Daily Bread Food Bank or donate $2 to Jacob’s Ladder to support Sick Kids Hospital and receive a free Umbra gift. Sale hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. However, you will have to get there early; there’s always a huge line-up.

If you are diehard fan of warehouse sales like me, stay tuned and I’ll update on current happening regularly!

Where to buy the Cheapest Halloween Candy

My idea for this week’s blog post was to do a comparison shop of Halloween candy and report where the best deals are.  Howevewr, as I flipped through the flyers and tried to put together my excel spreadsheet, I discovered that there are so many variables that the manufacturer’s have made nearly impossible to compare apples to apples.  I found bags as small as 12 pieces, up to 125 pieces.  Some were described as snack size, and some as fun size?  I’m not sure what the difference is?  It seems that for the most part, only pennies separated the lowest and highest costs.  Superstore was a consistent winner, but only by about a dollar on the larger sizes, and Wal-Mart has a 100 count Mars for $10.  In the end, my advice is, don’t waste your time shopping from store to store.  Buy your candy were you normally shop, and feel good about making better use of your time!

Eating for a Cause

Where else can you sample the culinary talent of Ontario’s top Chefs for $10?

Soupstock is a one-day culinary celebration on October 21 2012 that will feature tasty soups from more than 200 of Canada’s top chefs.  For only $10, you will be able to buy 3 soups from your favourite chefs.  100% of all the money collected will go to support the Mega Quarry cause.  Watch Michaels Stadlander’s video about his visit to Melancthon Township – the proposed site for the Mega Quarry.

The event will be held in Woodbine Park, located in Toronto’s Beaches neighbourhood, near Queen Street East and Coxwell, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. rain or shine. If you are like me, you probably hate line-ups, so I highly recommend the option to buy tickets in advance.

Soupstock is a BYOB…”Bring Your Own Bowl”  event!

This cause is is close to my heart because I grew up in rural Ontario, and my Uncle and Aunt spent their lives farming in this area.   I had the opportunity to attend Foodstock last year, and the only disappointment was the weather.  The forecast for tomorrow looks great, so I hope to see you all there.

Hotel Deal near Pearson Airport

I just got this deal on Dealfind…WOW!  If you know anyone who needs a hotel before the fly, or just coming in for the weekend, this is a great hotel deal (which of course, leaves more money for shopping)!  This is comparable to getting an airline rate.
